INAPPROPRI8

My unique little thoughts: But I AM an Indian.

craspedia:

Please don’t use photos of me in a headdress as your poster for “why white people shouldn’t wear headdresses or dreadlocks”
I am a very proud individual when it comes to my ancestors. I love being part Indian, half Puerto Rican, part Irish, etc.. And if I decide that I want explore and celebrate my roots more deeply, then I think I have the right. Yes, my ancestors were abused by the “white people” [but what even is a white person? We are all such beautiful kaleidoscopes now] why can’t we all enjoy each other? I live in a state where a large percentage of the people I know are Indians and they love my headdress and war paint.

NO. NO. NO. NO.

If you are in fact, part Native American, you would know that NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN DO NOT WEAR HEADDRESSES. YOU ARE NOT EXPLORING YOUR CULTURE IN DOING SO, YOU ARE EXPLORING A DAMAGING STEREOTYPE. WE ARE NOT “SUCH BEAUTIFUL KALEIDOSCOPES” BY OUR OWN WILL EITHER. WE WERE FORCED TO ASSIMILATE AND THEREFORE LOST OUR LANGUAGES AND TRADITIONS. WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS NOT OK. PLEASE STOP.
